Knitting seed stitch

Dear users, dear authors,
what is seed stitch and how do you knit it? 

In a pearl stitch pattern, you knit every row or round by alternating 1 purl stitch and 1 knit stitch, working a purl stitch over every knit stitch from the previous row and a knit stitch over every purl stitch from the previous row. This creates a dense pattern that resembles small pearls (hence the name).

There’s also a seed stitch pattern that spans 2 rows, followed by a shift in the stitches. This is called the large seed stitch pattern.

Thus, one pattern repeat consists of 4 rows and 2 stitches. 

The seed stitch is very quick to knit, and I really like this little seed stitch pattern. It’s a bit looser than stockinette stitch but not as loose as garter stitch.

Theory is all well and good, but here is a picture of seed stitch from me. I like to use it for borders on blankets because seed stitch doesn’t ripple or curl up. Because the stitches alternate regularly, they balance each other out. Take a look: all the way around, I knitted the wider border in seed stitch.
