How to untwist a twisted cable while working on a project

Hi!
I’ve been knitting for a while now, but lately I’ve been having trouble with my circular needles with a cable—the cable gets really twisted every now and then.
I’m knitting with merino wool and haven’t dared to try the hot water method yet.
Does anyone have any tips on how I can straighten it out while I’m still working on my project?

Or, silly question: if I buy needles of the same size with a cable that twists along with the yarn, can I just knit over the whole thing once?

You can definitely just knit it onto the new needle.... 
I’m familiar with that problem too, especially when you have pretty “heavy” yarn on the needles and/or a lot of stitches. That’s when swivel cables are a real advantage.
