Crocheted items are less stretchy: should I use stretchy yarn to compensate?

I’ve heard that crocheted items are less stretchy than knitted ones. I read online that you can use yarn with some spandex to compensate. Have any of you tried this?

No, I haven’t tried that yet, but it could make sense. I once crocheted some socks, and they were no good at all—they were way too tight; I would have liked them to be more stretchy.

However, like Veronika, I can see the logic in it.

I love stretchy yarn—you can really create amazing things with it… However, my favorite yarn, Molina by Lang, is almost impossible to find anymore.
This stretchy yarn is, of course, also more forgiving if you gain a little weight.
What I mean is, if finished garments are a bit more stretchy… that can’t hurt sometimes.
