Wide double crochet stitches???

Hi
I’d like to crochet a scarf.
Ardiente scarf, the pattern is also available here under this name.
It’s for beginners. I crochet quite well, but I’m really struggling with this one.
First you crochet 72 + 1 chain stitches.
Then you start in the 7th chain stitch from the hook. Crochet 2 wide double crochets (2 double crochets with 2 chain stitches in between).
I don’t understand this.
In the crochet chart, it’s shown differently too.
I couldn’t find anything about “wide double crochets” on Google either.

Hmmm, the way I’d interpret it is that you crochet a double crochet, then 2 chain stitches, and then continue with the next double crochet in the third chain stitch below, creating a gap. But is that what “wide double crochet” means? I have no idea. Why don’t you just ask the author?

According to the diagram in the free pattern from here:
in the 7th ch, you crochet 1 double crochet, skip 2 ch at the bottom, and crochet another double crochet into the next ch = that’s the treble crochet.

Did you look at the diagram? You can see it really clearly there.

I mean, is that the “wide double crochet”?

According to the crochet chart, the way I understand it is that you crochet a double crochet into the 7th chain stitch, but don’t complete it = 2 loops on the hook,
then skip two chain stitches, crochet the next double crochet, again without completing it = 3 loops on the hook, and then work them off together

Yes, I looked at the diagram too. I’ve already tried all three variations.
Imelda69’s version is also the closest to the photo of the stitches.
BUT
the row is supposed to end with a wide double crochet, 2 chain stitches, and a double crochet in the last stitch.
Unfortunately, that never works—it always ends up as a V-shaped double crochet.
Should I just chain more stitches than specified?
That’s why I think I’m doing something wrong.

You can crochet the wide double crochet either according to my instructions or according to Imelda69’s instructions. It doesn’t matter which.
At the end of the row, according to the diagram, there’s a wide double crochet, then crochet 2 more chain stitches, skip two stitches below, and make one more double crochet in the last chain stitch.

So you simply didn’t chain enough stitches.

I also think the 72+1 are the problem. I'll try it with more chain stitches.

I just crocheted the first row, and it worked out for me—I end with a wide double crochet, just like in the diagram.
Did you skip 2 chain stitches between each V and wide double crochet? If so, it should actually work out.

I wanted the shawl to be wider, so I cast on as described (divisible by 8 + 1 / 88 + 1).
I’ll probably just stick with 72 + 1.
I’ll give it a try later.

With 58 stitches, it looks like this for me. I spontaneously decided to crochet a colorful scarf.

It works with 72 + 1
It really does seem to be because the note "divisible by 8" isn’t correct.
58 isn’t 100% right either
My pattern looks exactly the same.

Well, looking at the pattern, the stitches should be divisible by 9. The pattern repeat is 9 stitches wide.
