what are crossed double crochets and what do you use them for?

It’s very simple. You crochet 1 double crochet into the next-but-one stitch, then a chain stitch, then a double crochet into the skipped stitch.

They create an airy pattern that you can actually use for just about anything. I’ve used them to make baby clothes, sweaters, pillowcases, and blankets.

How do they differ from post double crochet?

Crossed double crochets are worked INTO the stitches of the previous row/round, while post double crochets are worked AROUND the double crochet of the previous row/round :-)
