I don’t understand the pattern

Hi everyone, I want to crochet a dish sponge duck, but starting with Round 19, I don’t understand the pattern anymore. Can anyone help me?

Round 19: From here on, crochet in rounds again. 1 ch, turn work. 3 sc, 7 sc on the side of the piece you just crocheted, 6 sc on the back of the head, 7 sc on the other side of the piece. Total: 23 sc (23).

Oh, then it’s more complicated. Could it be that this round is where the duck’s shape is formed? And that the head is formed from the body?

I suspect this is what’s meant:
You first crocheted the head in rounds and then a section in rows (presumably the duck’s chest).
Now you’re supposed to crochet in rounds again. To do this, turn the work, crochet 3 sc, and now continue with the 7 sts along the side of the section you crocheted in rows (i.e. upward toward the head). Then you’ll reach the head; here, crochet 6 sts, and then continue with 7 sts along the side of the chest. Now you’ve crocheted 23 sts and should have returned to the beginning of your round, where you can continue crocheting in rounds as usual.

Thank you very much for the reply, but unfortunately that doesn’t help me because I just don’t know what those 3 stitches are for. When I turn the work and crochet 3 stitches, I’m back at the next row. How do I get from there to the side? Can I post pictures here too?

Hi Petra, crocheting the duck starts with the head in rounds, then moves on to the body for a bit, then there’s the switch from rounds to rows up to round 19, and that’s where I get stuck because of my lack of imagination.

When you crochet those 3 sts, you’ll be at the end of the row and can now crochet along the side:
(the dotted line means you’re crocheting on the back of the head)

I’ve now found the answer. My stitch count was off, which is why I had no idea how to continue. Now I’ve counted meticulously and it worked out. Many thanks to everyone who racked their brains over my problem. Starting out is always hard!
