Which yarn brands are popular?

which yarn brands are popular? Which ones can you rely on, and which ones are best to avoid? How do you even tell the good ones from the bad ones?

Hi.... I like the brands on-line, schachenmeyer, and Schöller Stahl. I usually have yarn from them. But other brands also offer good yarn lines, like Kkk, mondial, or real no-names. 

But I usually buy no-names locally in a shop. That way you can feel the yarn and notice whether it's good yarn. So far I've never had a bad buy. 

I like cotton yarn; acrylic just isn’t my thing at all. I need to be able to feel the yarn, and then I look at the label to see what’s in it. I haven’t bought yarn online yet—I prefer to do it in person at a store.

Schachenmeyer yarn would also have been the first one that came to mind for me, but it was already mentioned above.

I work with all kinds of yarn: Lana grossa, Lang, Red Heart, Drops, among others. 
I’ve also ordered yarn online several times, and so far I haven’t been disappointed.

I love crocheting with Schachenmayr Catania because it comes in absolutely gorgeous colors and has a huge selection.
I just found some yarn on eBay for €1 less than the Catania... according to the description, it’s pretty much the same as the Catania... (http://www.ebay.de/itm/151499739098?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&var=450705467498&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT ) I’ve included the link—hope that’s okay.
Maybe someone knows it and can tell me if it’s comparable to Schachenmayr Catania.

I’m familiar with Cotton Quick Uni yarn, and it’s really comparable to Schachenmayr Catania and Lana Grossa Cotone. The quality is almost the same, and I’m very happy with it.

My favorite yarns have already been mentioned here. But I also like to use whatever I find in stores and sometimes pick up some no-name brands on a whim.
