Pattern Not Satisfactory

29 Posts Recent Started

Hi,
what can I do if a pattern isn’t actually usable? A knitting pattern is missing basic information like the gauge and the measurements of the finished piece. I actually expect that in a knitting pattern. The seller isn’t responding…
Did I buy it for nothing? Unfortunately, you can’t tell these things beforehand.
Do you have any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Kirsten,

sometimes a gauge isn’t necessary, for example, when it comes to shawls or scarves.
For clothing, though, it should definitely be included.
If the author doesn’t respond, you can send a message to our moderator, Josefa. She’ll contact them for you.

Best regards
Michaela

It’s a cardigan.

Maybe it’s the same cardigan whose pattern I also bought—the one with a hood and patch pockets. Since there are no measurements included, I can’t really do anything with it, unfortunately.
I’ve already written to the seller twice, but I haven’t received a reply yet.

Josefa, I’ll send you a private message with the link. It would be great if you could ask on my behalf, too.

Thanks, Kirsten, for asking here on the forum.

Thanks! Now we’ll see if they get back to us. Could this just be an ad for these knitting parties?
Once I finish my current project, I’ll do the math for size 38 and a different type of yarn.

Hello everyone,
I’ve done some sketching and calculations and will try making the jacket based on this information.
Since these details have so far only existed in theory and are untested, I don’t want to post them here (yet). Anyone who is interested is welcome to send me a private message.
By the way: on the manufacturer’s website for the yarn specified for the jacket (it was mentioned somewhere in the notes), the gauge is given as 4 sts = 2.54 cm
That would mean 16 sts equal 10 cm. If that’s correct, 64 sts are far too few for the jacket.
Best regards, and enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

@Kirsten and Monika,
if you’d like, can I help you cancel the purchase?
Then you can start over with a different pattern.

The pattern wasn’t expensive, but it’s still frustrating…
Yes, thank you very much for the offer!

So you’d like to cancel the purchase, right?
Please confirm that for me briefly.

@Monika,
would you also like to cancel your purchase?

Dear Josefa, thank you so much for your help and the irresistible offer to cancel the order.

Yes—I’d like to cancel, since I really can’t do anything with the pattern.
I’d rather buy a different one instead.

I wish you and everyone else here a wonderful week leading up to Easter with lots of crocheting and knitting!

Best regards
Monika

Hello Josefa,
I’d also be happy to accept the cancellation.
Thank you very much for your support!
@ Monika: once I’m finished with the jacket, should I send you the details?
But it may take a while... (it’s just a hobby alongside work and family)
Best regards
Kirsten

Hi Kirsten,
yes, I’d love to take you up on your offer. Take your time—I have plenty of other projects to work on in the meantime. ;-)
For me, it’s just a hobby too... although it has become a very big one by now.
Best regards
Monika

Hello Monika and Kirsten,

Since the gauge is generally printed on the label, I don’t include it separately, as it can be checked there. However, we have just checked again, and the information on this yarn’s label is as follows: Gauge: 4 stitches per 3 cm.

We hope we were able to help. Best regards, Kati and Ilo.

@Kirsten and Monika
are you sticking with the cancellation, or do you want to continue?

Well, every garment should have measurements … How am I supposed to convert the instructions without that information? After all, the piece already exists. It really shouldn’t be a problem to make a rough sketch with measurements and count the stitches in a 10x10 cm gauge swatch.

P.S.: The information online says 2.54 cm for 4 stitches = a difference of 3 stitches per 10 cm.

The jacket is beautiful. If you improve the pattern a bit, others will appreciate it too.

I feel the same way as Kirsten. Without the jacket’s measurements, it can’t be recalculated.
I just looked at the pattern again. Unfortunately, I still can’t make sense of it.
And the replies and the contact are too vague for me as well.
Josefa, you can cancel it for me.
