Stuffing material

Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 10:00 AM
Hi,

I’m currently making the ride-on animal by frauscheiner and plan to stuff it soon. I want it to be quite sturdy, not cuddly, and firm enough to hold up when my granddaughter “rides” it. I’ve been thinking about using wood wool because I can’t imagine other materials having the right level of firmness. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea how much to order.
Could you share
your opinions and experiences with me? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I don’t have any experience with this either. But maybe foam would work.
There are lots of suppliers online.
For example, here: http://www.schaumstoff-zuschnitte.de
Best regards, Petra

What if you use those beads that are also used for beanbags? Or just put something like a beanbag inside?

Good morning, it seems to me that wood wool is the right choice. I’d buy about 2–3 kg—that’s a lot, because wood wool has a high bulk. Although it also depends on the specific wood wool, why not just ask the seller how much you’ll need?

Better to have a little extra than not enough—then you might even have some wood wool left over for a teddy bear like great-grandma’s :D
Good luck, and have a wonderful Sunday!

Hi,
I’ve already sewn the ride-on toy and stuffed it with stuffing. But I use aquarium filter floss instead. I always buy it in larger quantities—it ends up being cheaper than stuffing and has a firmer consistency. I stuffed the ride-on toy very tightly with it; I can’t say exactly how much I ended up using, but it was definitely a few kilos. Our grandson rides it every day, and it’s holding up perfectly.
Best regards
Ingrid

If I use wood wool, is it possible to distribute it evenly so that it stays that way, or will it clump together from being used as a ride-on toy?
