muetzekatze is learning to knit—but it won’t work without YouTube videos ;)

Hi,
I got some circular knitting needles a while back—they came with a pack of yarn.
And of course, I watched some videos on YouTube so I could learn how to do it and all that.
I’ve got the cast-on pretty much down now—
I’ve tried a few different methods—
but I haven’t gotten much further than that.

Are there any other beginner knitters here?

Hi Muetzekatze,
you can find all the knitting patterns in the "Knitting" category and its subcategories.

Thanks for the tip
I’m just an absolute beginner at knitting, with no prior experience,
so I really have to start from scratch; a pattern is still too “complicated” for me right now.
I have to practice the basic techniques first, because aside from casting on, I really don’t know how to do anything else—and even my cast-on isn’t perfect yet: either it’s too tight, so the stitches are hard to get off the needle, or too loose, with loops that are too big and end up slipping off. If you’ve only ever practiced with a crochet hook, switching to two knitting needles is quite an adjustment. But I made progress with crocheting in just a few weeks, so I’m sure I’ll get the hang of knitting too. It won’t be enough for the pro league, but maybe—before winter’s over—enough for a hat. :)

My problem is that right now I’m still not quite sure where to place the yarn—to the right, to the left, or below; in front of the stitch, behind it, or whatever.
And I’ve actually started knitting with the yarn tail that you’re really supposed to leave for weaving in the ends. Actually, you’re supposed to knit with the working yarn—the one that leads back to the ball of yarn. I know that in theory, but somehow I still get confused.

If anyone has tips for complete beginners, I’d love to hear them. :)

Nope, knitting just isn’t working out for me right now. I just can’t seem to get the hang of it. It starts right with the cast-on—that doesn’t always go well—and knitting just isn’t my thing. I’m also a bit impatient sometimes. Either it works right away, the way I want it to, or… well. I mean, I’m usually really patient, but when it comes to knitting, somehow I’m not at all. I’d rather go back to my crochet hooks—at least I can manage those somewhat, enough for chain stitches, double crochets, half double crochets, potholders, and stuff like that.
I want to be as good as everyone else someday, but I’m afraid I’ll have to practice with more discipline to get there. :)

Check out *** Link removed, Mod ***—once you get past the beginning, it’s actually pretty easy.
I use less yarn when knitting than when crocheting, and it also has more give.
