Seasonal decorations

Tell me, those of you who decorate seasonally too... how long do you keep things Christmasy? And then what? What do you do between Christmas and Easter?
Since we no longer travel, I now regularly change my decorations too; otherwise the place gets too boring for me. So I already have quite a bit for Easter, summer, autumn, and Halloween, and of course the Christmas season. But then there’s nothing for a while. Well, the born-and-bred Cologne folks are now in carnival fever, but that’s really not my thing, and I don’t really like clowns either.

Winter is still here even after Christmas. I decorate with wintry landscapes—just without Santa Claus, angels, and the like.
For example, this igloo with penguins:

Once I’ve put my Christmas stuff away again, I don’t decorate anything at first; I only put up a few bits and pieces again about 8–10 days before Easter. After that, I might bring out a few summery lanterns, but first I’ll have to embroider some more, because the ones I had out always seemed to grow legs :-) It’s not just my daughters—the grandkids have also developed quite a charming way with things in that regard :-) ;-) But it doesn’t bother me much; I’ll just fire up the embroidery machine again. Strangely enough, they leave things alone if I say, “That’s mine,” but if I don’t say anything, they usually grow legs :-)
Toward fall, I have owls and hedgehogs standing around, and my mushrooms

Best, Inge

Yeah, that’s right *sigh*, it’s still winter. As far as I’m concerned, spring should start on January 6. :-)
I’ve also left a few little snowmen up—I could build on that. An igloo and penguins are definitely a great idea.

Christmas decorations will stay up until the 6th, and then the winter decorations will go up. As the season changes, the first signs of spring will start to mix in and gradually take over. For Valentine’s Day, I have a few little things to hang up. I’m still working on the new Easter decorations.

It’s still totally Christmas at our place—when I lose interest in that (which will probably take another 1–2 weeks…), I’ll put my general decor on the shelf for now.

Over the years, I’ve collected enough stuff that isn’t seasonal. I love browsing art and flea markets, or sometimes making things myself.
These neutral decorations get moved around here and are always adjusted to suit my mood—for example, in mid-January or February, I need things to be much more colorful than the rest of the year.

At Easter, seasonal decorations get mixed in again, and the same goes for fall.

The big overhaul happens again during Advent, when I swap out the entire display.

I just love it to be much more lavish and whimsical during that time, when it’s so dark and gray outside.
Since everyone here knows that, I keep getting little gifts to add to the mix… very often homemade, which I really appreciate.

By the way, I’m very glad my husband puts up with it—and yes, I’m pretty extreme about it—but see for yourselves.

I’ve been putting my Christmas decorations in the basement for the past two days. The tree will stay up until January 6, then I’ll take it down.

The snowflakes will stay on the kitchen window for a while longer, too. It’s winter. I’ll also leave a few snowmen and chubby angels from the Christmas decorations up.

In February, Valentine’s Day comes around with hearts.

Then come the spring blooms and the Easter bunnies.

In summer, the strawberries

Then fall and Halloween

And before you know it, it’s Advent again

I also enjoy redecorating, and since there’s so much to discover that I’d like to recreate, my collection just keeps growing.

Like Claudia, I love browsing flea markets—that’s where I find little treasures.

I have door decorations for spring, summer, fall, and winter. And my daughter goes to flea markets, and every now and then she sells some of my things there. So there’s always something to do.

Cologne is also decked out in winter decorations outside right now. The only things missing are snowmen and penguins....

Snow in Cologne—how lovely. Here, it was 6.9 degrees this morning… and the forecast says it’s going to get warmer. So much for new decorations in Swabia.

Petra, here in our part of Main-Franconia, it’s no different—snow? What kind of foreign word is that here?? ;-))) :-))) Today, it’s supposed to rain again—no sign of snow.

Hugs, Inge

That’s usually the case in Cologne, too, so this is a truly precious, rare photo. It snowed heavily until noon today—it looked absolutely beautiful. Now it’s already turning to slush and melting again.

So let’s build a snowman....

I found this embroidered picture while tidying up—now it’s time to sew

I’m sticking with socks for now.
Best wishes
It looks like the world is ending here. It’s snowing like crazy.
Apparently that can happen even in the lowlands. 😃⛷️

I’ve already seen it and will come back to it after I finish my current project. I liked it. I still have some sock yarn—I’m sure I could knit some wrist warmers with it ;))

Here’s a quick update: I’ve embraced winter and will be adjusting the decorations accordingly. There’ll be penguins, snowmen, sleds, and polar bears, and I’ve already downloaded the patterns for the igloo and penguins—that’s what I’ll be crocheting next.

This lunchtime I also dyed some fabric light blue for a winter motif.

It's cold outside, so winter-themed crafting still makes me happy.

I’m already on it. I’m getting ready for spring. A door wreath with a flowering tree. I’m on flower 5 of 150 :(( ;))

150 identical flowers—I could never manage that.
Hats off to you for sticking with it. I don’t like doing the same thing over and over.

It actually goes pretty fast 😉 and in between, I also switch to amigurumi, and I’ve got a sweater on the needles, too. Oh, and wrist warmers and a headband—I have to put those on hold for now since I’m still waiting for more yarn to arrive.

I embroidered these two pieces by hand around 2004–2005—one is an autumn scene and the other a snowman. The snowman eventually found its way to one of my grandchildren. The hexagons are 1 cm in size, and I almost broke my fingers fiddling with them until the stars were finished.

Love, Inge

I believe it. Beautiful. I’ve had the ultimate finger-breaker with tiny mice. They’re only 3 cm.
