Length of leftover yarn

I was just wondering how long the leftover yarn needs to be to make it worth saving it for a pattern for leftover yarn?

Hi Sundown,
I generally save all my leftover yarn—no matter how long it is.

I use leftover yarn to make all sorts of things, like colorful hats, scarves, pillowcases, hot water bottle covers, and slippers. If necessary, I use shorter pieces for pom-poms.

Most of the time, the colorful items are the most sought-after because they’re one-of-a-kind.

Best regards, Petra

Hi sundown,

I save pretty much everything, too. :)
A leftover yarn scrap that’s “too short” for me is really just a tiny little scrap.

As I already wrote in the leftover yarn thread, I tie together scraps that can’t be used to make anything on their own into a long strand and wind it up. This creates a colorful ball of leftover yarn.
  Sure, there are tons of knots in there, but it’s perfect for crocheting parts or sections that won’t be visible later—or for making colorful amigurumis. With amigurumis, you just have to make sure the knots are on the inside. That way, you can’t see them, and they don’t get in the way. Plus, the amigurumi turns out beautifully colorful and unique.

Best wishes
Steph :)

@Steph
how do you manage to keep the knots on the inside?
Amigurumi aren’t crocheted double-layered, are they?

@muetzekatze:

No, not that, but they’re hollow inside and are filled with stuffing (or something similar). That’s the inside I was referring to. So when you’re crocheting, the knots aren’t on the “nice” side—the one that will later face outward—but are always facing inward. In addition to the stuffing, there are also plenty of knots and loose ends inside. :)

I knit with leftover yarn and always end up with a lot of it because I knit so many socks—brightly colored ones for the family. Since I don’t like weaving in ends, I tie the different colors together using what’s called a “Frankfurt knot.” It works great; the men in my family wear these socks, and so far not a single knot has come undone—they’re really tiny.
