Backpack, Bocca Grande No. 81

Hi!
I bought the pattern and the beginner’s course and started crocheting the bottom.
I ran into a problem (this is my first time using this technique): I couldn’t get it to work with a size 2 1/2 crochet hook. I crochet pretty tightly. With a size 3 hook, the pattern turns out nice and compact. However, I’m afraid that the base won’t reach the specified diameter of 28 cm. It’s turning out much smaller. If I use a size 3 1/2 hook, small holes appear at the insertion points and the pattern no longer looks as nice and compact.
What should the diameter be by the end of the first anthracite color? Maybe that would be helpful.
I’d appreciate your advice.

Good morning, in my experience, when I use a larger hook, my crochet work also gets larger. That’s why I would have thought that with a size 3 hook, your diameter would also be larger than specified in the pattern.
