Basic knitting pattern for a soft and cuddly doll of about 40 cm/16 inches. No Wardrobe!

Anni and Olivia are neighbours and real BFF – best friends forever. They live on the outskirts of Hamburg,
go to the same class and want nothing more than a dog. Or a pony! Oh yes, a pony would be soooo cool! They could ride to school with it and feed it the yucky potato soup from school canteen …

INCLUDED IN THIS PATTERN

  • doll body with integrated knickers
  • Anni‘s hair
  • Olivia's knotted hair
  • eyes and face

ATTENTION: Corrected version02 uploaded July 2nd 2023. Please download the pattern again.
Page 4, top of page: After round 16, knit 20 sts instead of 36 sts.
Page 10, ears: Cast on 16 sts (not 24 sts)

Patterns for matching wardrobe you find in my crazypatterns shop:

The pattern is written for advanced knitters. The doll is knitted in rounds!

Step-by-step instructions and a lot of pictures guide you through the knitting and finish. Additionally you get an elaborate appendix with all the knitting techniques beyond the pure basics.

You can use any yarn you like (e.g. sock yarn). Depending on the yarn weight, the dolls will be taller or shorter. With the mentioned gauge they have a height of approx. 40 cm. Knit as tight as possible, so the stuffing will not show. A good gauge for the yarn mentioned below would be

27 stitches x 38 rows = 10 x 10 cm = 4 x 4 inches

Good to know: Anni and Olivia are knitted according to the same instructions and with the same yarn. However, Olivia is actually a little bigger - I knitted her a few months later and obviously a little looser, which affected the size.

  • Original yarn: Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino Superfein (100 % Merino wool, 175 yards (160 m) per 1.76 ounces (50 g))
  • Body (for one doll): SKIN COLOUR approx 1,5 ball (75 g), KNICKERS approx 0,5 ball (25 g)
  • Olivia‘s hair: 1 ball of black tweed wool, not too thin. I have used yarn from my stock, which unfortunately is discontinued: Lana Grossa Royal Tweed. Alternative suggestions can be found below with the jacket. My tip: Browse through your wool stock first. For example, I could well imagine thicker mohair yarn or more rough wool (handspun?) - or a mixture of both!
  • Anni‘s hair: RUSSET approx 1 ball (50 g)
  • 2 glas eyes with metal loops, Ø 13 or 14 mm. I love the eyes from this shop:
  • Or safety eyes in brown/black, Ø 12 – 14 mm
  • Or beads or halfbeads, Ø 10 – 14 mm
  • Black twine
  • Strong felt approx 3 mm strong, 8 x 12 cm
  • Polyester stuffing
  • Circular needle and set of double pointed needles size 3 US (3 mm) and size 4 US (3.5 mm)
  • Crochet hook 3 mm
  • 4 stitch holders or big safety pins
  • Darning needle, embroidery needle, sciccors
  • Blusher or crayon for the cheeks

I hope you enjoy knitting one (or more) of the cute little friends!
Yours Steffi
