Family Puu cuddly monsters knitting pattern

FAMILY PUU FROM PUMPKINSTAN
Tucked away in a hidden valley of the Pamir Mountains you find the tiny kingdom of Pumpkinstan, somewhere between Tadzhikistan and Kyrgyztan. The inhabitants of Pumpkinstan live in lovingly decorated
vegetable plots they scrape from the barren earth. Nevertheless, the Pumpkinians are a cheerful lot. As they are pretty robust, undemanding and playful, they make perfect compagnions for little boys and girls (and of course the odd adult)!

The extensive and detailed pattern is suitable for adventurous beginners – more complicated techniques are explained in photo tutorials. PLEASE MIND: The monsters are partly knitted flat, partly in the ROUND!

The following techniques you have to know already:

• cast on
• knit and purl
• knit in the round with double pointed needles
• bind off
• crochet chains

Materials you need:

• Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino Superfein (100 % Merino wool, 175 yards (160 m) per 1.76 ounces (50 g)) 1 skein each in ORANGE, TURQUOISE, RED and GREEN
• 2 black beads, halfbeads or safety eyes, Ø approx 8 – 10 mm, or black yarn for stitching the eyes, 2 small black beads
• 2 cotton-wool balls ø 40 mm, pipe cleaner, felt in WHITE and BLACK
• WHITE sewing thread, BLACK twine, embroidery thread in WHITE
• Circular needle and set of size 3 US (3 mm, 12 UK) double pointed needles, crochet hook size G US (4 mm, 8 UK)
• 1 small stitchholder or safety pin, embroidery needle,
• sewing needle, darning needle
• Polyester stuffing or similar, scissors, glue

Of course you can use any yarn you want (or you have left over). The family will be bigger or smaller depending on the yarn. With the yarn mentioned above Mrs Puu measures approximately 23 cm = 9 inches, Mr Puu 20 cm = 8 inches (without antenna) and Puuly 7,5 cm = 3 inches (without antenna).
