THE STASH GOBBLERS #03

Please note: If you already bought Owl Family Shuhuu, don’t buy this pattern – it’s included in the Shuhuus

Owls, owls, everywhere owls! They sit on window sills and sideboards, hide in bags or even find a new home under your blanket. You only need leftover yarn in as many colours as you like, a matching circular needle, some stuffing and material for the eyes, and off you are knitting up your own flock!

Have fun knitting!

Skills Required / What You'll Receive

The pattern is rather elaborate despite the fact that the owls are so tiny. Beginners learn how to work a provisional cast on, short rows and three-needle bind-off with my tutorials – the owls are so tiny, you just don’t care if it takes you more tries to get the desired result. And if you are a seasoned knitter, just print out the pages 3 to 6 and start with the fun!

These knitting and crocheting techniques you already master:

  • Knitting: cast on, bind off, knit, purl
  • Crocheting: chain stitch

Included tutorials:

  • decreases, increases
  • provisional cast on
  • short rows
  • 3-needle bind off

Size Information

Knit as tight as possible, so the stuffing will not show. A good gauge for the yarn mentioned below would be 27 stitches x 38 rows = 10 x 10 cm = 4 x 4 inches

Of course you can use any yarn you want (or you have left over). The owls will be bigger or smaller depending on the yarn. With the gauge shown above the owls measures approximately 7,5 cm = 3 inches (without the ear tassels).

Materials List

Original yarn: Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino Superfein (100 % Merino wool,
175 yards (160 m) per 1.76 ounces (50 g)) 6 g in main colour 1, 8 g in main colour 2, tiny leftovers for beak, feet and ear tassels. You may use leftover yarn of different quality in as many colours as you want – the owls love their plumage bright and colourful!

  • Beads, halfbeads or safety eyes, Ø approx 5 – 7 mm
  • Felt and matching sewing thread for the eyes
  • Circular needle and set of size 3 US (3 mm, 12 UK) double pointed needles, crochet hook size G US (4 mm, 8 UK)
  • embroidery needle, sewing needle, darning needle
  • Polyester stuffing or similar, scissors, glue
  • Optional: Nylon socks and polyester granule or rice

Very detailed pattern

This is a great pattern, it has lots of detailed instructions and lots of pictures. I have just finished my first owl and I think he looks great. I also learnt some new skills while making him.

    Hallo,
Ich suche die beschriebene „Eulenfamilie Schuhu“, da ich lieber größere Eulen stricken will. Über den Suche-Button finde ich sie nicht. Könnten Sie mir einen Link schicken?

    Vielen Dank.

I can't figure out how to download my [attern in English!

Dear Joy, just go to your download section again – there are two pdf files for downloading, one in English, one in German. Or just download the zip, open it and you get both files in once. I hope I could help :-)

  • Total schnuckelig! :-)
