Kemal The Camel knitting pattern

Kemal has just been voted the most handsome camel of the Orient – you can imagine how proud he is! Now he is travelling with the Three Wise Men to act in a nativity play all over the world. In his heart he hopes soooo much to become the Christmas present for a nice child!

Making Kemal is not difficult, but not too easy either. But if you know how to knit socks, he will not be a problem I guess, and if you just started knitting and want to learn more – hey, why not give it a try? Please mind that Kemal has soft legs. He cannot stand on his own, but you find a suggestion for stiffer legs in the pattern.

PLESE MIND: The camel is worked in ROUNDS, there is no instruction for knitting flat.

The following techniques you have to know already:

Materials you need:

• Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino Superfein
• (100 % Merino wool, 175 yards (160 m) per 1.76 ounces (50 g)) 2 skeins in CAMEL and small amounts in PINK, ORANGE, RED, PURPLE and TURQUOISE
• 2 black beads or safety eyes, ø approx 5 – 8 mm, BLACK twine
• Set of size 3 US (3 mm, 12 UK) double pointed needles
• Embroidery needle, sewing needle, darning needle, small safety pin
• Wadding – I used polyester fluffs as is used for cushion stuffing. They are very soft, lightweight and keep the form. If you google „AMF s_03 Kissenfüllung“ you find the wadding I used. I am sure there is similar stuffing available closer to your home!
• Optional: If you want your camel with stiff legs, you need approx 12 x 36 cm = 5 x 15 inches of thick felt
