Ricardas CableCollar | knitting pattern | Shawl, knitted collar

Product description

Ricarda's CableCollar is a perfect accessory for the transitional season. It keeps your neck warm while remaining lightweight and unobtrusive. For an extra touch of warmth, you can even knit a double-layered collar. The playful cable pattern across the neck area adds a special touch to the design.
You start at the neck. First, it is knitted in the round before using short rows to improve the fit. At the same time, you begin increasing stitches for the front and back panels, which help shape the shoulder line. Once the full shoulder width is reached, the front and back panels are finished separately. Both parts taper slightly downward through decreases.

Skills Required / What You'll Receive

This pattern is for advanced beginners. Knit all steps row per row, the cable pattern is knitted using a chart.

Size Information

1 (2, 3)

Finished collar measurements in cm/in:

Neck circumference: 50/19.7 (50/19.7, 50/19.7)
Shoulder width: 51/20.1 (55/21.7, 59/23.2)
Length of front/back panel (measured at the outermost part of the shoulder): 22/8.7 (25/9.8, 28/11)

Materials List

“Aran-weight”-yarn (170-200 m = 100 g / 186-219yd = 353oz.), e.g.:
o 150 (150, 200) g Alpawool Baby “Big & Light“ by Hansafarm (50 g = 130 m / 142 yd), or
o 150 (200, 200) g „Como Grande“ by Lamana (50 g = 120 m / 131 yd) for the single-layered version. If you knit the double-layered version, you’ll need approx. 80-100 m / 87.5-109.4 yd more.

Note: The alpaca yarn by Hansafarm is a “blow yarn”, which is very efficient due to the large amount of air. It is not comparable to other yarns of the same length. Therefore, I recommend that when using alternative yarns, you refer more to the Lamana alternative for the quantity.

Other Materials needed:

  • 5.5 mm (US 9) and 5.0 mm (US 8) (Como Grande) or 5.0 mm (US 8) and 4.5 mm (US 7) (Hansafarm) circular needle or the needle size you need to achieve the specified gauge, possibly double-pointed needles in the same size for the neck if you are not using the Magic Loop method
  • 8 marker, one of them should look different (BOR)
  • Cable needle
  • Scrap yarn for putting sts on hold
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends

It is not allowed to sell the knitted garment using this pattern as well.
