Maras MountainScarf mini is the smaller, refined sister of the voluminous, softly draping Maras MountainScarf, featuring a textured pattern with ribs and delicate eyelet rows. The rhythmic design evokes mountain landscapes, giving the piece depth and movement. Despite its intricate appearance, the scarf is surprisingly relaxing to knit. A cozy, feel-good project perfect for snuggling.
You start at one tip and increase stitches on one side until you reach your desired number of stitches. From this point on, you knit diagonally, keeping the stitch count constant by increasing and decreasing at the same time. You continue knitting the scarf to your preferred length and finish it with decreases stitches on one side.
This pattern is for advanced beginners.
Techniques used
The size of the scarf can be customized in both width and length.
The scarf shown in the picture is approximately 8 cm wide and 120 cm long.
Yarn
You can use any yarn you like.
I recommend sport to DK weight (approx. 120–200 m | 131–219 yds / 50 g).
In the sample, I used one ball of “Classic” by Cardiff Cashmere together with “Prime,” also by Cardiff Cashmere.
Gauge
A gauge swatch (knit in pattern, e.g. two pattern repeats in width and height) is important not only to estimate how the measurements might change after washing, but also to see if your yarn and needle size work well together. Also, it gives you an idea of the approximate width of the scarf.
Measure your swatch both before and after washing to get a good idea of the finished result while you’re still knitting.
