Ricarda’s Cable Headband is another design from Ricarda‘s Collection, whose hallmark is its striking cable pattern. In this headband, the cable takes center stage together with the distinctive knot in the middle, making the design a true eye-catcher. The headband is knitted double-layered: the outside features the cable pattern, while the inside is worked in stockinette stitch for comfortable wear. The width varies
depending on the chosen yarn weight, allowing the design to be easily adapted to different materials and individual needs.
You start at the center front and knit a straight tube in the round, with the inside worked in stockinette stitch and the outside in cable pattern. Once you have reached the required length, you bind off the stitches, close the cast-on edge, and sew the headband together to form the characteristic knot.
This pattern is for advances beginners.
Techniques used:
The pattern also includes videolinks to visualize the 3-needle-bind-off and how to sew the knot.
Customizable. The width depends on the yarn you choose, while the length is measured directly to fit your head circumference. The sample headband shown is 13 cm / 5.1 in width.
Yarn
You will need approx. 200 m / 219 yd yarn of your choice; in my sample I used “Tencel Blow” by
Svarta Fåret Garn (110 m / 120 yd = 50 g), "Brisa" by BC GArn or "Snefnug" by Camarose will also be a great choice.
Gauge
Your gauge depends on the yarn you choose. I recommend knitting one cable pattern repeat so you can estimate the width of your headband and assess how the yarn and needle size work together.
The gauge for “Tencel Blow” using 5.0 mm (US 8) needles is
24 sts × 24 rnds in cable pattern, and
18 sts × 24 rnds in stockinette stitch.
You can knit the gauge swatch either in the round or flat. If you knit it flat, the first row of the chart is a wrong-side row.
Wash and dry the swatch before measuring.
