Crochet for Beginners

There’s not much going on here in the crochet subforum yet, so I thought I’d start a thread.

Could someone maybe briefly explain how a beginner can get started with crochet and what basic supplies you need to get going?

Tutorials for beginner crocheters would be great. It’s a fantastic idea! I think we could even offer a small (at least symbolic) payment for good, unique, or exclusive tutorials. What do you think? Would anyone be willing to work on one?

... It’s a bit difficult to explain this clearly in writing. For anyone who doesn’t know how to crochet at all, I recommend searching YouTube for videos using the search term “learn to crochet”—it’s much easier to follow along that way, and it’s best to crochet along with the video as you watch.

I like listening to the lady.
She explains it very nicely.
Unfortunately there are only parts 1–5 and no more videos after that.

Could it be that eliZZZa13 from nadelspiel.com has been here in the forum or over on the Crazypatterns Facebook page before? I only just read the name somewhere recently, but I don’t remember exactly where.
In any case, she has lots of crochet tutorial videos on YouTube.
