Selling patterns – tax stuff?

Hi dear authors,

What official steps do you need to take if you want to sell patterns? Register a business?
And would you need a tax advisor even if you only have a few patterns, or just one, or can you do it yourself?

I’d be grateful for any info.

Hi Anja,

You do have to report this in some way, yes.
Most authors have registered a business; some work as freelancers.
You’ll need to figure out which option is right for you and then discuss it with the tax office.

Whether you need a tax advisor depends less on the number of patterns and more on your knowledge of the subject. Ultimately, it
doesn’t matter for your tax return whether you have one or 100 patterns online.

The question is more whether it’s worth the effort to register a business just for 1–2 patterns.
