Hello,
I bought two crochet patterns over the weekend. When I tried to download them, I noticed that both patterns can only be opened and downloaded using the "Office" program.
Since I don’t have Office on my laptop and am not willing to buy the program,
I think it would be helpful to mention earlier in the text that the patterns were created using Office and can only be opened with it.
As it stands, I spent money on the patterns and can’t use them, which makes me very unhappy.
I’ve bought many patterns before and have always been very satisfied.
Best regards
Bärbel Völpel
OpenOffice is available as a free download.
But aside from that, it’s of course not ideal to upload the pattern only as an OpenOffice file. Even if you have the program, there’s no guarantee that the pattern will be displayed correctly.
I’d also write to the author and ask her to convert the pattern to PDF format and send it to you again.
I find that rather strange; perhaps it was a mistake on the author’s part. It happened to me once that I accidentally uploaded the Office file instead of the PDF, and then I was contacted by CP and told that I should upload the PDF first before the pattern is activated. It was very embarrassing for me!
I’m not sure if it will work if the author uploads a PDF later—whether you, as the buyer, will then be able to access it—but maybe she could send you the PDF via email?
@Bärbel,
welcome to our forum.
Please tell me the name of the author and please send me the link to the pattern.
I will get in touch with the author.
We'll get this sorted out. Don't worry.
Thank you.

Maybe I’m just “too dumb” to download them ;(
that was surely just an oversight. I also work with OpenOffice and convert the file to a PDF once it’s finished. Since the PDF also has to be zipped (i.e., an archive where you can no longer see which file types are inside), it can happen that you click on the wrong file and it ends up on Crazypatterns. I’m sure your problem can be fixed, and you’ll be up and running soon :-)
@Bärbel,
I’ve reached out to the author via private message.
She’ll definitely get back to you soon, since she goes online regularly after her day job.
It’ll all work out.
I just sent you, Handarbeitsbengel, a message.
Please just get in touch with me and we’ll find a quick solution together.
The patterns are in PDF format; I just downloaded them.
Unfortunately, I don’t know why you can’t open them either; I lack the technical understanding for that. Other customers have also bought the pattern, and apparently there were no problems. I’m at a loss.
@Bärbel,
please send me the downloaded file at josefa@crazypatterns.net.
Please also let me know which programs you use to unzip files or as a PDF reader.
