Crochet ribbon curls up

Help: How do I insert the double crochets into the foundation chain so the ribbon doesn’t curl up? I’m working on the “Reading Sheep” pattern from supergurumi and can’t get the legs to lie flat. Thanks for any tips.

I think it will probably always curl slightly. One possible solution would be foundation double crochet, which means crocheting the double crochet stitches without a foundation chain. There are tutorials for this, so please try googling it.
Otherwise, the strip will flatten out later when you block it, or when weights (e.g. the feet) are added to the legs. Alternatively, you can treat it with a little spray starch later on.
