Sewing felt that’s too thick—how?

How can I sew thick felt? I'm having trouble and making really slow progress.

With a normal household sewing machine, the clearance probably won’t be high enough; unfortunately, there’s nothing else you can do except put yourself
- and the machine through it ;-)

The needles won’t get damaged because even the thickest felt is still very soft, so as long as you don’t pull too abruptly, nothing can go wrong. My sewing machine has several different presser feet that let you adjust the feed a bit more precisely; maybe there’s something like that for your model, too. You also have the option of free-motion sewing, but that requires a little practice and extra care with your fingers. Take off the presser foot^^ When free-motion sewing, thin disposable rubber gloves are very helpful because the fabric doesn’t slip away as easily. Since the fabric\/felt no longer has any guidance without the presser foot, getting a nice seam is naturally a challenge at first, but after half an hour of practice, you’ll actually have it well under control. Slow and steady is the key here. If your machine won’t sew without the presser foot, I’m afraid I don’t have any advice. To maintain an even distance from the edge, stick a piece of colored electrical tape along the edge—it comes off easily later.
