STOCKINETTE STITCH
Stockinette stitch is a basic knitting stitch pattern that creates a smooth, even fabric. It is made by knitting alternating rows of knit and purl stitches. Stockinette stitch works with any number of stitches per row, and you can use it on patterns that call for an odd or an even number of stitches. There are two ways to knit stockinette stitch: flat and in the round.
Row 1: Knit all stitches.
Row 2: Purl all stitches.
Repeat rows one and two until your piece measures the desired length.
Working in the rounds simply knit every round until your piece measures the desired length.
KNIT 3 STITCHES TOGETHER
Knit three stitches together are double decreases techniques in knitting. You reduce three stitches to one.
- Insert your right needle into all three stitches at once, just like a standard knit stitch.
- Wrap the yarn over the needle counterclockwise.
- Pull the yarn through all three stitches and slide them off the left needle.
A K3tog is made.
INSTRUCTIONS
This pattern is really easy to follow; no matter if the only stitches you know are knit and purl. And there are many possibilities to customize it by adding new color for the top, using another stitch or knit in a different color.
This hat is worked fro the bottom to top, begun by working the two earflaps separately on two double pointed needles, then they are joined between cast on spacing stitches, and the hat is completed in the round.
TIES
The hat started form ties. Cast on 4 stitches. Work ca. 15 cm in stockinette stitch.
OR you can knit I-Cord - a tube knitted in the round with two double-pointed needles.
I-CORD
To begin, cast on 3 or more stitches onto one of your double-pointed needles. Knit these 3 stitches normally, from the left needle to the right. Now all 3 stitches are on the right-hand needle and the yarn is attached to the left stitch. Without turning your work, slide the stitches from one end of the needle to the other. Without turning the needle, pull the yarn across the back of the work and knit the 3 stitches. When you have knit all 3 stitches onto the right needle, again slide the stitches from one end of the double-pointed needle to the other. Repeat these steps, pulling the yarn snug at the beginning of each row to insure even stitches. Fasten off normally.
EARFLAPS
After the last row of I-Cord, turn rather than sliding stitches to the other side of needles.
Row 1: 1 knit stitch, yarn over, 2 knit stitches, yarn over, 1 knit stitch
Row 2: purl 6 stitches
Row 3: 1 knit stitch, yarn over, 4 knit stitches, yarn over, 1 knit stitch

Row 6: purl 10 stitches
Row 7: 1 knit stitch, yarn over, 8 knit stitches, yarn over, 1 knit stitch
Row 8: purl 12 stitches
