WESTSIDE SOCKS - a knitting pattern by fil-art-aue
***Far west - where waves thundering against the rocks, the Atlantic is rough and the wind blows in strong gusts - warm hand-knitted socks are essential, even for the big boys, real men and strong women!
A very decorative wave pattern runs as a double band along the outside of the leg, then merges into the heel at the back and runs along the outside of the foot as a simple band to the tip of the foot.
The socks are worked top-down on a circular knitting needle (= magic loop method) in rounds - i.e. from top to bottom or from the cuff towards the tip of the foot. Alternatively, it is also possible to work with DPNs or with trio-needles.
And don't worry about the heel! In my search for a really simple but well-fitting heel I came across the "Strong Heel". This heel was introduced in 2003 in "Knitters Issue 73" by Geraldine Crawford Strong - hence the name. This heel offers many advantages:
In order to knit the socks, basic knowledge and some practice in knitting is all you need. All steps are explained in detail. For techniques that might not be quite so familiar - such as elastic cast-on - there are also "links" to helpful videos. All patterns are both, charted and written!
You will receive a detailed knitting pattern in English language, with size informations and material specifications, tips, further links and photos.
The socks are described for 3 widths, size US (Men) 6 - 11, UK 5,5 – 10,5. These socks can be easily adjusted. Attention: The Wave Pattern is too wide for smaller sizes!
Yarn:
Knitting needles: circular needle no. 2.25 - 2.5 mm or optionally DPNs or trio-needles
Notions: 2 stitch markers
