Knitting pattern: Baby comforter/washcloth “Stella” (Highland Cow)

Product description

Are you looking for a special, handmade gift for a birth or christening? With this detailed knitting pattern, you can create a beautiful, functional baby comforter (also usable as a baby washcloth) that is sure to become a much-loved companion.

The centerpiece of the design is an adorable, seated Scottish Highland cow named "Stella," who curiously watches a butterfly fluttering overhead. A motif full of lightness and security, perfect for a baby's room.

The knitting technique is fascinating: double-knitting. This means that the motif appears on the front in the main color and on the back in the contrasting color.

Uniquely customizable: With your custom name
Would you like to make this comforter truly unique piece? The product price includes the creation of a knitting chart (readable from both sides) and row-by-row pattern (text mirrored) with your chosen name! You can place this name either at the top or bottom of the design. Of course, you can also knit the comforter completely without a name.

Skills Required / What You'll Receive

Skills:

  • Basic knitting skills (casting on and binding off stitches, knitting knit and purl stitches, knitting in rows, for a double-sided name: knitting from a knitting chart)
Note: To achieve a clean, color-separated edge, I used the Italian cast-on. Mastering this technique is advantageous for a more aesthetically pleasing result.
  • Double-face knitting technique
IMPORTANT: This guide does not contain technical instructions for double-face knitting. Mastery of the basic techniques, or a willingness to learn them (e.g., using one of the many well-explained online videos), is a prerequisite for completing this project.

What you get:
You will receive a 5-page pattern (DIN A4) in PDF format. This booklet conveniently includes row-by-row counting, which greatly simplifies knitting as there is no need to count individual stitches. A knitting chart for the name "Stella" is also included.
If you use the personalized name service, you will also receive an additional knitting chart (readable from both sides) and a row-by-row instruction (text mirrored) later via email.
The instructions are available in both German and English (a total of three PDFs can be downloaded).

Difficulty level:
Easy if you already know the technique of double-face knitting.

Size Information

Size specifications may vary depending on the yarn used.
Using 3mm knitting needles, I knitted with yarn that yields a gauge of 28 stitches x 36 rows per 10 x 10 cm. With this yarn, the cuddly shawl with the name row measures approximately 20 cm x 26 cm (about 3 cm shorter without the name). The shawl can be made larger at all edges with solid-colored stitches.

Materials List

  • Yarn. Depending on your yarn tension and the yarn and needle size you choose, the measurements may vary. Plan for approximately 100 meters of yarn per color. For items that babies might put in their mouths, a "superwash" yarn made of organic cotton, bamboo, or similar materials is always recommended!
  • Knitting needles (e.g. 3mm)
  • Sewing needle
  • Darning needle (for binding off)
  • Scissors
