Crochet pattern for 3D handbags

Hello, dear community!

I’m new to the forum, and my son suggested I reach out here. I’m looking for patterns for those beautiful 3D-motif bags—preferably in German, but I’d be willing to use a translator as well. I’d be incredibly grateful if anyone could suggest where I might find something like this.

Hi Vera.

The bags you’re looking for will likely be impossible to make, since they’re AI-generated images. I’ve only seen this type of bag in AI images and haven’t come across any real-life versions that match them.

Good luck with your search, but I don’t think you’ll find what you’re looking for.

The easiest way would be to find a pattern for the amigurumi you want and a pattern for a bag, and then combine the two. For the little animal or doll, you can simply make the necessary adjustments—for example, omitting the legs—and stuff it only lightly so you can sew it onto the bag fairly flat.

Hi,

I saw your question and wanted to chime in. I actually did a project like that once, inspired by an AI-generated image. It was last fall—in 2023. I thought to myself, why not try crocheting some gloves? I actually managed to finish them, probably because I’ve been crocheting for ages.
But the project was really challenging. It ruined my enjoyment of crocheting, and I haven’t felt like doing it since.
It can get pretty tricky.
Crocheting is fun when it’s not frustrating.

Best regards.

Thank you so much for your replies. My son already warned me that these are probably AI-generated images. That’s really too bad, because I think these bags are gorgeous. Maybe someday in the distant future, an AI will create a pattern for bags or pillowcases like these—and maybe I’ll even get to see it happen. I hope you all continue to enjoy crocheting, and thanks again.
Best regards

If an AI ever actually starts creating patterns, then we authors will probably become obsolete. I really hope that doesn’t happen.

AI can already write patterns. I’ve tested it myself. It’s already a reality. Sorry about that. After all, AI is constantly learning from all of our patterns.

Best regards, Ina

Hi Ina, can you actually follow along with patterns like that? Has anyone tried this before?

Best regards, Kathi

Hi Kathi, yes, I’ve already tried that. It works perfectly. The AI doesn’t come up with anything new on its own—it just looks at all the patterns available on the web and uses them to create “its own” patterns. The better we are, the better the AI’s patterns will be. And it’s constantly learning. Unfortunately, creative professions aren’t exempt from the advancements brought by AI.

Best regards, Ina

I haven’t tried it yet, but I also think that patterns for “standard items” like scarves, sweaters, socks, pillows, and blankets—as well as simple amigurumi like bunnies, teddy bears, or gnomes—are relatively easy for an AI to create. When it comes to more original ideas, we designers are probably (still) ahead. But for how long?

@Schnuckelina

But surely the AI isn’t allowed to access my patterns to learn from them, is it?

There’s some kind of form where you can opt out of having your images used by AI, but unfortunately I don’t have it on hand right now

Google “Reject AI” and you’ll find all the info

However, this opt-out form doesn’t apply across the board to all data available online.

You can fill out a form for Facebook or Instagram. There, you have to provide a detailed explanation of why you want to prevent the AI from training with your data. The data isn’t being stolen—it’s being used to “train” the AI.  The request is then reviewed by META. If there are serious reasons, the opt-out will be approved… or the request will be denied.

If a request is denied, your only option is to delete all personal data from the internet so that it’s no longer accessible to the AI. But then you won’t be able to share your patterns online anymore.

In my view, there’s no way to protect yourself from the AI using your own data for its “training.” It’s getting smarter and smarter… and in the end, you can’t say, “It copied that from me.” It will then create new things based on everything it has learned from all of us. That’s the future—sorry. I don’t like it either, but I can’t stop it.

Best, Ina

Well, that’s kind of how we do it, isn’t it? At first, we needed patterns from others to create something, then another one, and another… And over time, we learn from them and might even be able to write our own patterns.
