Size:
Approx. 58 x 58 cm

Material:
Crochet hook 4,5 mm
Cotton Aran Yarn in 4 different colours, the colour of the starfish can be replaced with any other colour you like.
Yarn weight: 50 g = 85 m (using a different weight will simply alter the size of the finished piece).
Grey: approx. 300 gr. (G)
Black: approx. 60 gr. (B)
Dark Pink: approx. 50 gr. (P1)
Bright Pink: approx. 50 gr. (P2)

Abbreviations: (I use US Terms)
ST: Stitch
SC: Single Crochet
CH: Chain stitch
DC: Double Crochet
SS: Slip Stitch
Block: A Block always consists of the beginning Ch and the 3 Double Crochet. In the pattern, I use the number followed with the Colour to show how many blocks have to be worked in the Colour.

This pattern assumes you’re already comfortable with how to hold the yarn, change colours, when to use new yarn balls for the same colour and how to read the crochet graph. I do have a few Blog entries here on Crazypatterns.net which explain the technique more into the detail, as well as a beginners guide here:
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/blog/2263/free-beginner-guide-for-c2c-crochet-croner-to-corner

Infos for the Pattern:
The piece starts with a beginning chain of 6 and the first DC for the first block is worked in the 4th ch from the hook.

At the beginning of each row, chain 6 stitches, then work the “block” place the first double crochet into the 4th chain from the hook.
For the second block and all subsequent blocks, start each one with 3 chains.
To achieve a neater edge, work the last double crochet of each row not into the chain space, but into the top chain stitch of the previous row.
When you reach the point where decreases begin, proceed as normal by making 3 slip stitches along the side, and then start the block again with 3 chains.

When reading the chart: Odd-numbered rows are read from right to left diagonally, even-numbered rows are read from left to right also diagonally.
At the start of each row, I indicate whether it is an “increase row” (begins with 3 chains) or a “decrease row” (begins with 3 slip stitches along the edge, followed by 3 chains).

Border (Edging)
Along each side where the side of a double crochet is visible, work 2 single crochets into each stitch. Along each side where the top loop of a double crochet is visible, work 3 single crochets into each stitch. Chain 1 in each corner.
Work this sequence around all four sides, then join with a slip stitch.
