SAILOR'S BRIDE shawl knitting pattern

Product description

I can‘t deny it: I love bold dots and stripes. This time, I choose a more maritime
colorway with separately knitted dots that remind of portholes. Of course you can choose other color combination, there are loads of suggestions in the pattern and the picture gallery. Please choose lightweight and thin yarns with a halo, like mohair, that hide the irregular placed increases.

Skills Required / What You'll Receive

  • Step-by-step pattern with many pictures
  • All rows are written out to spare you the calculating of the irregular increases
  • Appendix with the more elaborate techniques

The shawl is easy to knit, nevertheless, because of the mohair yarn it is not suitable for beginners.

Size Information

Gauge in stockinette stitch in rows
20 – 22 stitches x 32 – 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm = 4 x 4 inches

Size with gauge mentioned above
Wingspan, unblocked: approximately 180 cm = 70 inches
Hight, unblocked: approximately 60 cm = 24 inches

Materials List

The yarn I used
AUSTERMANN Kid Silk (75% mohair, 25% silk, yardage 225 m / 25 g) in

  • white (no 10), 2 skeins
  • blue (no 45), 1 skein
  • light blue (no 29), 1 skein
  • yellow (no 41), 1 skein
  • Oddment of smooth yarn for provisional cast on

Alternative Yarns

  • LANA GROSSA silkhair (210 m / 25 g)
  • ROWAN Kidsilk Haze (210 m / 25 g)
  • WILLOW & LARK Plume (210 m / 25 g)
  • ITO Sensai (240 m / 20 g)

  • Long circular needle and set of dpn in size US 4, 5 or 6 / GB 9 or 8 / metric 3.5 to 4.0 mm
  • Crochet hook in size US E, F or G / GB 9, 8 or 7 / metric 3.5 to 4.5 mm

Please mind: I developed this pattern for mohair lace yarn. The irregular increases remain invisible in mohair, but they may show in a smooth yarn. You might try other yarns with a halo, like some alpaca lace yarns or alike, but make a sample with increases first!

Have fun knitting!

Super Anleitung

Die Anleitung ist sehr gut und detailliert. Ich konnte den einzelnen Schritten auch Dank der Bilder gut folgen. Die Farbvorschläge waren eine super Anregung. Es hat richtig Spaß gemacht, das Tuch zu stricken.
