I couldn' resist the challenge when Anna Karina Birkenstock, a german illustrator, asked me if I like to make knitting patterns for her childrens books heroes "Lille und Löwe". It took me a fair amount of unravelling until I was happy with the outcome, but here they are!
PLEASE MIND: The animals are knitted in the ROUND, there is no instruction for flat knitting!

Size Information
Knit as tight as possible, so the stuffing will not show. A good gauge for the yarn mentioned below would be
27 stitches x 38 rows = 10 x 10 cm = 4 x 4 inches
With the gauge shown above Lion measures approx 29 cm = 12 inches, Lille measures approx 23 cm = 9 inches.

Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino Superfein
(100 % Merino wool, 175 yards (160 m) per 1.76 ounces (50 g)) 2 to 2.5 skeins in YELLOW, 1 skein in RED- BROWN, leftovers in WHITE and BROWN for the nose
Cotton fabric for ears and paws, approx
10 x 20 cm = 4 x 8 inches, matching sewing thread
2 black beads or safety eyes, ø approx 6 – 10 mm, BLACK twine
For Lille
Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino Superfein
(100 % Merino wool, 175 yards (160 m) per 1.76 ounces (50 g)) 1 skein each in BROWN and BRIGHT PINK (it should be a rosy or nude hue)
Cotton jersey for neckerchief and hat, approx
60 x 20 cm = 24 x 8 inches, matching sewing thread
2 black beads or safety eyes, ø approx 5 – 8 mm, BLACK twine
For both
Set of size 3 US (3 mm, 12 UK) double pointed needles
Embroidery needle, sewing needle, darning needle, small safety pin
Wadding – I used polyester fluffs as is used for cushion stuffing.

Ostern ist vorbei, ich habe mich aber erst jetzt getraut diesen Hasen zu stricken. Ich habe eigentlich immer nur gehäkelt.
Die Anleitung ist genial. Ich hatte keine Probleme mit rechten und linken Maschen, Zu- und Abnahmen. Da die Anleitung auch für "in Reihen" geschrieben ist, ist sie total anfängertauglich.
Hat richtig Spaß gemacht, vielen Dank.
Diese Anleitung ist toll erklärt, Schritt für Schritt.
Für Anfänger könnte schwierig werden, mit dem Nadelspiel und Ferse.
Aber wagt euch ran, es macht riesigen Spaß die Puppen zu stricken.
Habe mittlerweile schon die 3 Puppe gestrickt 😍
Schade, dass man keine Bilder senden kann.
Es wird in dieser Anleitung jede Masche, die zu stricken ist, genau beschrieben. Zusätzlich gibt es einen Überblick über den Aufbau der Handschuhe. Man kann der Anleitung gut folgen und hat schnell das erste Paar Handschuhe fertig. Die sehr gute Anleitung lässt sich durch die Tipps gut auf eigene Wünsche abändern. Die von mir verwendete Wolle ergab auch bei der kleinsten Größe noch sehr große Handschuhe, so dass ich die Maschenzahl noch weiter verringern kann.
Durch die völlig andere Vorgehensweise erfrischend und kurzweilig. Das Resultat ist bei Verwendung diverser Woll-Reste immer wieder überraschend anders, jedoch immer sehr ansprechend.
I have paid for this pattern and when I downloaded it found that the instructions are not in English! There was no indication in the pattern ordering details that this pattern was in another language.
Dear June-Keir, there are two patterns in the download area. One in English, one in German. It looks like you downloaded the German pattern only. Just go back to the pattern site and click on the download button. (It's there because you bought the pattern already.) Make sure to download both patterns or the zipped file, just to make sure you get the right language.
It would be nice if you could tell people here when you downloaded the file, because it's very misleading to other customers who want to buy the English pattern but are irritated that there might be only one language.
