Akiak the Walrus knitting pattern

Product description

Of course Akiak the walrus does not need a knitted sweater – he is well protected from the icy cold by his fat. But then, even a walrus living north of the arctic circle knows a little bit about vanity. He is pretty proud of his looks and admires his reflection in the water rather often. He might have a reason – Akiak is very popular with the walrus ladies …

Please note: You only purchase the pattern for the walrus. The husky and penguin patterns are NOT included.

Skills Required / What You'll Receive

Level: intermediate to experienced (no beginners!)
The pattern will lead you step-by-step through the knitting and sewing, including detail photos, charts and instructions for the more elaborate techniques used.

PLEASE MIND: The animal is knitted in the ROUND, there is no instruction for flat knitting!

Size Information

Akiak is rather big: He measures approximately 45 cm = 18 inches from head to tail fins, that is if you use the yarn mentioned below. You can use different yarn of course – sock yarn would be a nice option.

Materials List

  • Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino Superfein (100 % Merino wool, 175 yards (160 m) per 1.76 ounces (50 g)) in MAROON and BLUE and some leftover yarn in LIGHT BLUE, OFF WHITE and ORANGE.

  • Embroidery thread or yarn in brown for the nose
  • Embroidery thread or twine in black
  • 2 black beads, approx ø 12 to 14 mm = 0.4 to 0.6 inches
  • Thick felt, approx 10 x 5 cm = 4 x 2 inches
  • Crochet hook and set of size 3 US (3 mm) double pointed needles or matching to the yarn you chose. As the walrus should be knitted very tight, you should use a smaller needle size than recommended on the yarn slip.
  • Darning needle, sewing needle, 4 safety pins
  • Polyester stuffing or similar, scissors, compass, cardboard

Have fun knitting your personal walrus,
yours Steffi

Tolle Anleitung

Mal was ganz anderes

I have paid for this pattern and when I downloaded it found that the instructions are not in English! There was no indication in the pattern ordering details that this pattern was in another language.
