Knitting pattern for "Gift Time" XXL Christmas stocking (2 foot designs!)

Product description

Moo-ho-ho! The Christmas season is fast approaching.

Knit yourself some Christmas coziness with the adorable "Gift Time" XXL Christmas stocking. With this detailed pattern, you’re all set to create what is arguably the season’s most charming knitting project: an extra-large, fillable Christmas stocking featuring a cute Highland cow peeking curiously over a giant Christmas gift. With its soulful eyes and signature shaggy hairdo, the little Highland cow is sure to bring joy to everyone’s heart.

The finished stocking is not only a beautiful, handmade Christmas decoration for the fireplace or banister, but also offers plenty of room for sweet surprises, nuts, and small gifts on St. Nicholas Day or Christmas morning.

Skills Required / What You'll Receive

Skills:

  • Basic knitting skills (casting on and binding off, knitting knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round, sock knitting)
Note: To achieve a clean edge with a distinct color separation, I used the Italian cast-on method. Mastering this technique is advantageous for a better result.

  • Doubleface knitting technique
IMPORTANT: The pattern does not include technical instructions for double knitting. Proficiency in the basic techniques or a willingness to learn them (e.g., via one of the many well-explained online videos) is a prerequisite for completing this project. It is also advantageous to have knitted a sock before. The pattern includes written instructions (without photos) for the boomerang heel and the toe.

What you get:
You will receive a ZIP folder containing an 18-page instruction guide (A4 size) in PDF format. It conveniently lists the stitch count for every row, making the knitting process much easier since you do not need to count the individual squares yourself. The pattern includes two different designs for the foot. It also includes written instructions (without photos) for a boomerang heel and a sock toe.
The instructions are available in both German and English.

Difficulty level:
Challenging if you have never knitted a sock before. Relatively easy if you have already mastered the technique of sock knitting, especially double knitting.

Size Information

The size specifications may vary depending on the yarn used.
Using 3 mm needles (including the set of double-pointed needles), I worked with a yarn that yields a gauge of 28 stitches by 32 rows over 10 x 10 cm. With this yarn, the leg of the Christmas stocking (from cuff to heel) measures approximately 54 cm, and the foot (from heel to toe) is about 29 cm long.

Materials List

  • Yarn. Depending on your tension and the specific yarn and needle size you choose to use, the requirements may vary. Plan for approximately 500 m of yarn per color.
  • Set of double-pointed needles (e.g., 3 mm)
  • Sewing needle
  • Darning needle (for casting off)
  • Cable needle (or something else you can use to secure a single stitch)
  • Scissors
  • optional: 2 circular needles with a sufficiently long cable (e.g., 3 mm and 80 cm)
  • optional: stitch markers (recommended for those using circular needles!)
  • optional: stitch stoppers (very helpful, alternatively hair ties can also be used)
  • optional: fluffy yarn for the hem
  • No-sew hanger (not a must, but very practical!)
