Cat illusion pattern

Hello, I would like to convert cat illusion into blanket. Would it be best to use the shawl pattern or the jacket/cardigan pattern. This does not need to be a big blanket, I knit for childred who have long stay in hospital.

Dear Lynette, 
I know this pattern from a sock book. I have also knitted these  socks. If you want to make a blanket out of it, I would crochet each square with a single crochet and always change the color. Or if you want to knit, I would knit squares. Maybe connect them alternately with empty squares.

maybe you try CtC (Corner to Corner) So the blanket would be bigger. Best regards
