An extraordinary construction

The KIWI cardigan is a trendy, yet timeless, garment for every closet, suitable for any occasion. The airy pattern is easy to crochet and gives the piece a loose and casual fit. The classic cut is very straightforward and without frills.

Here’s what’s unique about this project:
The cardigan is worked sideways and without any seams. It is worked in one piece, so this project works very well with variegated yarn, too. Additionally, there are no fixed sizes. Instead, you can customize the length and width according to your own preferred measurements by following the detailed instructions in this pattern.

There’s no need for swatching – you can choose any yarn and crochet hook size you like!

The cardi can be crocheted in any size (babies to adults) using any yarn you like.

The garment will be adjusted to your individual measurements and can therefore be adapted to any size for individual fit. So, there are no fixed sizes, numbers of stitches, specific measurements, or yarn specifications.
The exact process is explained step by step in these instructions.

The finished piece for adults pictured here with its measurements simply serves as an example and guideline. Every step of the instructions will use this sample to illustrate the specific process (in cm / inches and pattern reps).

Yardage information from my testers (¾- or long sleeves, worked with various yarns):
German size 36/38 (US 8–10, UK 10–12): approx. 1,000–1,300 m / 1,094–1,422 yards
German size 38/40 (US 10–12, UK 12–14): approx. 1,200–1,500 m / 1,312–1,640 yards
German size 40/42 (US 14–16, UK 16–18): approx. 1,400–1,700 m / 1,531–1,859 yards
German size 42/44 (US 16–18, UK 18–20): approx. 1,600–1,800 m / 1,750–1,969 yards
German size 44/46 (US 18–20, UK 20–22): approx. 1,700–1,900 m / 1,859–2,078 yards

Children’s size 92/98 (1 ½–3 years): approx. 450 m / 492 yards
Children’s size 110/116 (4–6 years): approx. 600 m / 656 yards
