Crochet a Lucky Pig – Cute Amigurumi Pig with Clover

Wednesday, June 17, 2026

You can always use a little lucky pig, right? Sometimes a tiny handmade gift is enough to put a smile on someone’s face – before an exam, at the start of a new year, during a new chapter in life, or simply on a day that could use a little extra luck.

This little pig is made exactly for that. It is round, friendly, and holds a small clover, almost as if it wants to pass on a little bit of luck. That makes it a lovely small gift, a sweet little surprise, or simply a cute project for in between.

I especially like small amigurumi projects like this because they are quick to make but still have a lovely effect. With the clover, the little pig becomes a sweet lucky charm that you will probably want to crochet more than once.

Materials

You will need:

  • pink cotton yarn, approx. 125 m / 50 g
  • a small amount of green yarn for the clover
  • a small amount of dark yarn for the nostrils
  • 2.5–3 mm crochet hook, or a hook suitable for your yarn
  • fiberfill
  • 8 mm safety eyes or embroidery thread for embroidered eyes
  • yarn needle
  • pins
  • optional: a little blush or pink chalk for the cheeks

If you tend to crochet rather loosely, it is better to use a slightly smaller hook. The stitches should be nice and tight so that the fiberfill does not show through later.

Abbreviations

st = stitch
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
MR = magic ring
inc = increase, 2 sc in one stitch
tog = crochet 2 stitches together
BLO = back loop only
dc = double crochet
R = round / row

Unless stated otherwise, the pieces are crocheted in continuous spiral rounds. It is best to place a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.

Size

Using cotton yarn with a length of approx. 125 m / 50 g, the pig will be about 9–10 cm tall. The exact size will of course depend on your yarn, crochet hook, and tension.

Body and Head

R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
R2: inc in each st. (12)
R3: inc in every 2nd st. (18)
R4: inc in every 3rd st. (24)
R5: inc in every 4th st. (30)
R6: inc in every 5th st. (36)
R7: inc in every 6th st. (42)
R8: inc in every 7th st. (48)
R9–15: 7 rounds sc. (48)

R16: tog every 7th and 8th st. (42)
R17: tog every 6th and 7th st. (36)

R18: inc in every 6th st. (42)
R19: inc in every 7th st. (48)
R20: inc in every 8th st. (54)
R21–26: 6 rounds sc. (54)

Now insert the safety eyes. They sit approximately between R23 and R24, with about 7–8 stitches between them. It is best to insert them loosely first and check the expression before pressing the washers firmly into place.

If the pig is intended for a baby or toddler, please embroider the eyes instead.

Now begin stuffing the body and head with fiberfill. Stuff evenly and fairly firmly, but not so much that the stitches stretch apart. You can keep adding a little more fiberfill during the next rounds.

R27: tog every 8th and 9th st. (48)
R28: tog every 7th and 8th st. (42)
R29: tog every 6th and 7th st. (36)
R30: tog every 5th and 6th st. (30)
R31: tog every 4th and 5th st. (24)
R32: tog every 3rd and 4th st. (18)
R33: tog every 2nd and 3rd st. (12)
R34: always tog 2 st. (6)

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for closing. Thread the yarn tail onto a yarn needle, weave it through the front loops of the last 6 stitches, and carefully pull the opening closed. Weave in the yarn end inside the body.

Snout

Ch 5.

R1: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, crochet 3 sc, 3 sc in the last ch, 2 sc on the other side of the chain, inc in the last st. (10)
R2: inc in the 1st st, 2 sc, inc in each of the next 3 st, 2 sc, inc in each of the last 2 st. (16)
R3: work in BLO only: 16 sc. (16)

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Embroider two small vertical nostrils onto the snout with dark yarn.

Ears, Make 2

When making the starting chain, leave the beginning yarn tail a little longer. You can use this tail later to sew the ear onto the head. The first row is crocheted into the back bumps of the chain. This creates a neat, clean bottom edge.

Ch 8.

R1: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, crochet 7 sc into the back bumps of the chain. (7)
R2: ch 1, turn, 7 sc. (7)
R3: ch 1, turn, 1 sc, 2 st tog, 1 sc, 2 st tog, 1 sc. (5)
R4: ch 1, turn, 2 st tog, 1 sc, 2 st tog. (3)
R5: ch 1, turn, 1 sc, 2 st tog. (2)
R6: ch 1, turn, 2 st tog. (1)

Cut the yarn and weave in the end. Keep the long beginning tail for sewing on the ear.

Back Legs, Make 2

R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
R2: inc in each st. (12)
R3: work in BLO only: 12 sc. (12)
R4–5: 2 rounds sc. (12)

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Stuff the back legs only lightly.

Front Legs / Arms, Make 2

R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
R2: inc in every 2nd st. (9)
R3: work in BLO only: 9 sc. (9)
R4: 9 sc. (9)

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. The front legs are stuffed only very lightly or not at all.

Curly Tail

Ch 12.

Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, crochet 2 sc in each ch.

Because of the many stitches worked into the short chain, the tail will curl almost by itself. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail so you can sew it on later.

Clover

Crochet with green yarn.

Crochet into a MR:

2 ch, 2 dc, 2 ch, sl st into the MR

Repeat this 3 more times, so that you have 4 leaves in total.

Pull the magic ring tightly closed.

For the stem, ch 5–6. If you like, you can work back along the chain with sl st to make the stem a little sturdier.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail so you can sew on the clover later.

Assembly

First pin all pieces in place before sewing them on. This allows you to adjust the position and check whether you like the expression.

The snout sits centered at the front, about 2 rounds below the eyes. When sewing it on, you can place a small amount of fiberfill underneath the snout so that it stands out a little more. Use only a tiny amount of stuffing here so the snout does not stick out too much.

The ears are sewn to the upper sides of the head. Sew them on along the bottom edge using the long beginning tail. The tips can fall loosely forward. If you like, you can slightly pinch the base while sewing it on so the ears sit even more nicely.

Sew the back legs to the lower sides of the body so that the pig sits steadily on its bottom. Place it on the table now and then while sewing to check whether it sits well.

Sew the smaller front legs to the lower front curve of the belly. They may point slightly outward and do not need to reach the ground.

You can place the clover between the front legs so that it looks as if the pig is holding it. Sew the clover to the belly and, if needed, lightly fix the front legs over it.

Sew the curly tail to the back of the body. One well-secured attachment point is enough so that it can curl loosely.

Finally, you can add small cheeks with a little blush or pink chalk. This is of course optional, but it makes the expression look even friendlier.

Safety Note

If the pig is intended for babies or toddlers, the eyes, nose, and other details should be embroidered. Also make sure that all sewn-on parts are attached especially securely and checked regularly. Additional safety requirements apply to toys for children, depending on the intended use.
