This table decoration was inspired by a documentary I recently watched on Disney, The Life of Bees. I found it incredibly fascinating, and the visuals were so impressive that they immediately inspired me to crochet a bee-themed table decoration.
Size:
Approx. 13 x 59 cm
If a yarn with the same gauge is used
32 Dc x 14 rows
Material:
Lace Yarn (Fingering) approx. 65 gr
I used yarn which had 50 gr to 280 m
(if you use a different weighted yarn, you might need more or less of the yarn)
Crochet hook 1.5 mm
Gauge in the filet crochet pattern:
10 x 10 cm: 14 Blocks length x 14 Blocks height
The Pattern is written in US terms:
St: Stitch
Ch: Chain
Slst: Slip stitch
Sc: Single crochet
Hdc: half double crochet
Dc: double crochet
Ch sp: chain space
Bl: Block
Sp: Space
The pattern includes a detailed row-by-row explanation that is written in a beginner-friendly way and clearly explains what needs to be worked.
At the end, there is also a chart included that can easily be printed: simply right-click on the image, save it, and print it out.
This way, more experienced filet crocheters can also work comfortably from the chart.
Info for when worked with the Row by Row explanation:
The starting chain stitches always count as the first double crochet.
For each double crochet from the previous round, we’ll work either one double crochet into each stitch or two double crochets into the chain space of the previous row.
When chain stitches are worked, always skip two stitches of the previous row (this is not mentioned again in every row instruction).
It is important to maintain an even tension throughout, so the chain stitches are neither too loose nor too tight.
As the table runner is worked in filet crochet, it consists of filled and empty squares (chain spaces).
Filled squares consist of 4 double crochets, while empty squares consist of 1 double crochet, 2 chain stitches, and 1 double crochet.
The first and last double crochet of each square also counts as the first and last double crochet of the next square. However, the pattern always clearly states what needs to be worked in each step.
Each row begins with 3 chain stitches and 3 double crochets in the following stitches, and ends with 4 double crochets in the final stitches. The very last double crochet is always worked into the 3rd chain of the previous row (see photos).

The Bee Table Decoration: Beginners explanation
Cast on 214 stitches with even tension.
(remember the 3 ch at the beginning of a row is counted as the first stitch, after 2 ch we jump over 2 stitches and the very last Dc is always worked on top of the 3rd ch from the previous round)

If you work it via the graph:
The table decoration has 70 blocks and 46 rows.
This pattern is worked in filet crochet, which consists of blocks and spaces. Each block has 4 double crochet, each space has 1 double crochet, 2 chain, skip 2 stitches, and 1 double crochet.
The first or last double crochet of a block or a space is also counted as the first or last double crochet of the next block or space.
When working two or more filled squares in a row, the last double crochet is also the first double crochet of the next block.
This means:
2 squares = 7 double crochet stitches
3 squares = 10 double crochet stitches
4 squares = 13 double crochet stitches
and so on.
.jpg)
Each row begins with 3 chain stitches and at least 3 double crochet stitches in the following 3 stitches.
At the end of each row, at least 4 double crochet stitches are worked into the final stitches, with the very last double crochet always worked into the 3rd chain of the previous row (see photos above).
Make sure not to work the chain stitches too tightly or too loosely, as this may distort the pattern.
Even-numbered rows are read from left to right, and odd-numbered rows are read from right to left.
Begin with the Graph:
Chain 214.
Work the first double crochet into the 4th chain from the hook.
(This means each row has a total of 211 stitches – either double crochets or chains.)
Work the chart all the way through.
Filled squares are shown in black in the chart and white squares represent the empty squares.
