Knitted bookworm

Wednesday, April 3, 2024

A few years ago I crocheted my first bookworm. Now I knitted it with knitting needles. I hope you enjoy it as much. And it will be a good helper for your kids in reading.

ASSEMBLE:

Now we work with the sewing needle and thread.

We are doing the eye trim. From the beginning of knitting down to row 29, where we had additions. Between the cheeks of 5 rows, mark two future eyes with a stitch width of 6 additions. Start from point A at the bottom of the pattern. We pierce the needle inside the pattern to point B. Make a stitch by piercing the needle at point C. From the point C, we bring the needle inside the pattern again at point A. Tighten the thread, obtaining visually the curve of the pattern. If necessary, you can repeat the pattern for a more expressive cheek. Now do the same for the second side. From the point A at the bottom of the pattern, push the needle to the point D. Make a stitch by inserting the needle in the point E. From the point E you needle in the inside of the pattern again to the point A. Tighten the thread to get a visual curve of the pattern. If necessary, you can repeat it for a more expressive cheek.

Please follow the photos.

Place the nose between the resulting cheeks. Sew. Attach the mouth. Sew.

We collect balls in the body.  Create the arc shape. Tightly pressing the balls together. Please follow the photos. The order of the assembly of the balls is indicated in the photo.

Sew the head to the ball 2.

Thread the arm wire through the body ball. In my case I needed about 30 cm.

We make a noose for the palm, fix it with an adhesive plaster.

Add a little filler to the long part of the arms. Now we can sew them to the body.

Cut out small circles of white felt for the eyes. Glue on the eyes.

Twist glasses from black wire. You can leave them round or later give them an oval shape.  Use small stitches to sew under the nose and on the sides.

I hope you ended up with an equally cute companion for your young book lovers! Or you can knit both options (crocheted and knitted) and also compare. I love all my bookworms.
