Karlos No. 12 is perfect for absolute beginners. If you can confidently knit the knit stitch, you can easily make this cardigan with its striking, unusual design. It is knitted seamlessly in one piece, so there are no separate pieces to sew together. Just simple knit stitches and no colour changes — the yarn does all the colour work for you, straight from the ball.
Although it may look complicated, patchwork knitting is usually very easy. All you need are knit stitches and simple decreases. The pattern includes plenty of photos and detailed instructions for each patch. A little patchwork knitting experience is helpful, but not essential.
If you have already knitted one of my Karl designs, you will have no trouble with this one. Experienced knitters will manage just fine, too. If you are a beginner, my advice is to follow the instructions word for word without overthinking them — and you will get there too!
Skills you will need:
Knitting knit stitches
Using the knitted cast-on and picking up stitches along an edge
Knitting stitches together
Weaving in yarn ends
I have made two short videos showing you how to cast on and pick up stitches, and how to weave in yarn ends. You can find them on YouTube.

Dear knitter
Many hours of work have gone into this knitting pattern. It was created with time, skill, patience and a considerable amount of coffee, and it is protected by copyright.
Unauthorised copying, sharing or “just quickly sending it to someone” is forbidden. Anyone who does so may henceforth
• never have the right stitch count again
• have to unravel their work over and over
• find hungry moths in their yarn basket
• drop stitches without noticing
• keep pulling yarn barf straight out of the ball, and
• only ever find yarn full of knots.
My heartfelt thanks go to all honest and fair knitters who respect and support creative work by purchasing this pattern.
Without you, patterns like this would not exist. May
• your stitches and patterns always be even
• your projects fit perfectly
• your yarn always last to the very last stitch, and
• you never lose your love for our wonderful hobby.
Warmest wishes,
Andrea Kirsch
