PATTERN: I Can Count Quiet Book ~ crochet hekle virka tejer haken häkeln

This is the pattern for a crocheted quiet book for learning how to count from 1 to 9. Each page has a colourful picture where the child can search for and count the items of different numbers. The book consists of ten separate pages crocheted together two and two, into five double sided pages, which are then assembled to a book.

The pattern is in both English (US terms) and Norwegian. The front pages differ from the two languages.

Gauge:
My gauge is 28 sc/ 10 cm (4 in), however, gauge is not too important as long as you keep your stitches even.

The pages are made with chains and single crochet stitches. The challenging part may be working with several colours at once, but the idle threads are left hanging on the back as they are not visible on the finished book. The pages are tied together using surface crocheting or sewing. All techniques are explained with photos.

The finished size of this book will vary slightly depending on what yarn, hook size and gauge you use, but mine measures 13 x 16 cm (5 x 6 ¼ in).

• Yarn: 8/4 Cotton yarn of your choise. (The colours I’ve used are just a guide). I recommend using cotton yarn as it sheds less fibre than other fibres, it is machine washable, and it is durable.
• Hook: 2.5 mm or size suiting your yarn.
• Tapestry needle(s), scissors, and a stitch marker for binding the pages together.
