PATTERN: Dads Selbu Mittens ~ knitting stricken strikke votter breien

These mittens are designed using traditional Norwegian elements of the Selbu tradition. They are knitted two-stranded in the round with a gusset for the thumb. The pattern includes lots of photos and tips for achieving the best result, and a section with Tips & Explanations where the different techniques are explained.

The pattern is written in both English and Norwegian.

Gauge:
32 sts & 30 rows per 10 cm (4 ") in two-stranded stockinette in the round.

Knit and purl stitches, increases and decreases (all explained). Two techniques for thumb knitting are explained.
Pattern motifs are charted.

These mittens measure approx. 30 cm total length (22 cm hand and 8 cm cuff). Circumference is approx. 23 cm (11.8” total length, and 8 “ circ).

• Yarn: Rauma Finull (2 ply wool yarn, 175 metres (191 yds) per 50 grams). Main colour approx. 45 grams and contrast colour approx. 30 grams (1 skein of each colour).
  Alternatives: Pernilla by Filcolana, Sisu by Sandnes Garn or 2-tr ull på Järbo Garn.

• Needles: Dpns size 3.0 mm or size needed to achieve gauge

• Stitch holder or scrap yarn for thumb stitches

• Darning needle
