Chick. Cosy or décor for an Easter egg

This colourful, fluffy chick creates a spring mood right away!
The body of a chick is hollow, it is made in a shape of an egg. You may use it as a cosy for an Easter egg or as a décor on its own.
This pattern may be transformed to create a hen provided you use thicker yarn than stated in this pattern. This you may hide up to a few eggs inside the hen’s body.

Crocheting level - intermediate.

Stitches (US-terminology):
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
inc – increase (2 sc in 1 st)
dec – decrease (single crochet two stitches together)
dc - double crochet

Techniques:
Magic Ring; crochet on chains; increase/decrease of stitches; crochet in continuous rounds, fasten off.

The chick is 9cm tall, the nest is 2cm high.

I used yarn produced by Russian manufacturing companies. Choose any suitable yarn of approximately same gauge and thickness.

Chick:

• yellow colour acrylic yarn (I used 100% acrylic 100g / 400 m) - about 20 g
• white colour acrylic yarn (I used 100% acrylic 100g/ 400 m) – about 5 g
• a small amount of beige colour cotton yarn for the beak (I used 100% Cotton yarn 100g/ 430 m)
• a small amount of red colour cotton yarn for the comb (I used 100% Cotton yarn 100g/ 430 m)
  Nest:
  • brown colour acrylic yarn (I used 100% acrylic 100g/400 m) – about 5 g
• brown colour fluffy eyelash type yarn (I used Fluffy 50g/ 106 m) – about 5 g
  Flower Wreath:
• a small amount of yellow, blue and green colour cotton yarn (I used 100% Cotton yarn 100g/430 m)
  Tools and accessories:
• crochet hooks of various sizes (I used 1.0 for cotton, 1.25 for acrylic and 1.5 for Fluffy)
• hollow fiber toy/cushion filling
• 2 beads for the eyes or ready - made eyes, I used 8 mm beads
• a sewing needle, a long needle for sculpting
• heavy duty thread for sculpting (for example tooth floss)
• brown and white colour embroidery yarn/thread
• all purpose clear transparent glue, e.g. UHU
