The pattern is written and includes a chart for the stitch pattern. A photo tutorial shows how to work the special stitch used to create the holes.
Difficulty level: advanced beginner (knitting in the round on DPNs or circular needles, making stitches from a gap that is several rounds below, decreases).
k: knit
p: purl
stockinette stitch: knit all stitches
kfb: knit into front and back of the stitch
BO: bind off
k2tog: knit 2 stitches together
di: double increase: insert right hand needle into the gap created by binding off 3 rounds below, lift the three strands up to your left hand needle. These strands will be the next stitch. Purl 1, knit 1 into these strands. (See tutorial).
Gauge: 24 stitches/38 rows in blocked stockinette stitch = 10cm/4in.

Sizes: child, teen, adult medium, adult large, 40, 45, 52, 57cm (16, 18, 20 3/4, 22 3/4in) in circumference, 15, 17, 19, 22cm (6, 6 3/4, 7 1/2, 8 3/4in) in length. It is a snugly fitting hat.
Materials List
Yarn: Four Seasons Gründl Hot Socks Print (75% wool, 25% nylon; 210m/50g; 230yds/1.76oz), 1 ball. Sample in size adult medium used 130m (142yds).
Needles: 3mm/US 2 1/2, set of 5 DPNs or circular needle
Notions: yarn needle, 1 stitch marker (optional when working on circular needle)
