Buttoned hat in bamboo stitch knitting pattern "Girl from Paris"

The buttons happen to show the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris. Otherwise it could be a girl from Stockholm, New York or Tokyo as well. Or anywhere.

The hat is worked from the bottom to the top, using bamboo stitch. It starts off flat and is later joined in the round. The buttons only serve a decorative purpose, no buttonholes are required.

The pattern is written, a small chart for the stitch pattern is included.

Difficulty level: Intermediate (bamboo stitch, decreases, double decreases, working in the round on DPNs)

• k: knit
• p: purl
• sl: slip
• yo: yarn over
• k2tog: knit 2 stitches together
• p2tog: purl 2 stitches together
• p3tog: purl 3 stitches together
• skp: slip 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch, pass slipped stitch over
• sk2p: slip 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together, pass slipped stitch over (double decrease)

Gauge: 24 stitches/28 rows in bamboo pattern = 10cm/4in (unstretched)

child, teen, adult medium, adult large, 40, 45, 50, 55cm (16, 18, 20, 22in) in circumference, 18, 20, 22, 24cm (7 1/4, 8, 8 3/4, 9 1/2in) in length. It is a snugly fitting hat. The stitch pattern is very stretchy, the hat will fit many heads.

Yarn: Filana Super Merino (100% wool; 85m/50g; 93yds/1.76oz), 2 balls. Sample in size adult medium used 126m (138yds). The child size can be done in only one ball.

Needles: 5mm/US 8, straight or circular, set of 5 DPNs in the same size

Notions: yarn needle, 2 buttons in size 2.5cm/1in for the child size hat, 3 buttons for all other sizes, 3 stitch markers (optional)
