The Shuhuus are not your average owls – they are pretty adventurous and left their forest to travel the world! As their budget is pretty small, if not to say non-existent (owls generally have a different definition about the term „rat race“ than humans and don‘t care for bank accounts), they opt for couch hopping. Now they are very excited about who might give them a home for a night, or two or more ... You will see, the Shuhuus are such an amiable flock, you will never want to let them go again once you opened your home for them!

The extensive and detailed pattern is suitable for adventurous beginners – more complicated techniques are explained in photo tutorials.

The following techniques you have to know already:

  • cast on
  • knit and purl
  • knit in the round with double pointed needles
  • bind off
  • crochet chains

The following techniques are explained in full detail:

  • decreasing
  • increasing
  • sewing and embroidering techniques
  • provisional cast on
  • short rows
  • 3-needle bind-off

Materials you need:

  • Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino Superfein (100 % Merino wool, 175 yards (160 m) per 1.76 ounces (50 g)) 0.5 skein each in PINK, ROSE, VIOLETT, DARK RED, YELLOW, BRIGHT YELLOW. You may use leftover yarn of different quality in as mans colours you want – the owl family loves their plumage bright and colourful!
  • Beads, halfbeads or safety eyes, Ø approx 8 – 10 mm and ø 5 mm
  • Felt in WHITE, VIOLETT, ROSE, matching sewing thread
  • Circular needle and set of size 3 US (3 mm, 12 UK) double pointed needles, crochet hook size G US (4 mm, 8 UK)
  • Crochet hook size G (4 mm)
  • 2 safety pins, embroidery needle, sewing needle, darning needle
  • Polyester stuffing or similar, scissors, glue

Of course you can use any yarn you want (or you have left over). The family will be bigger or smaller depending on the yarn. With the yarn mentioned above Mommy Owl measures approximately 13 cm = 5.2 inches, Daddy Owl 17 cm = 6.7 inches and the Owl Kids 7,5 cm = 3 inches (all without the ear tassels).

And now have fun knitting your own Family Shuhuu! Yours Steffi

Hilfe.
