Knitting Instructions for a Special Scarf
Two colors, an elegant pattern, and a knitting technique that creates an exciting look. Diamond Beach is a two-color scarf with a striking diamond pattern that’s still quite easy to knit.
The secret lies in the technique. The tension threads are first worked in front of the piece and then picked up offset in the following rows. This gradually creates the diamond pattern that gives the scarf its name. It’s knitted using the Lazy Tail method.
The interplay of the two colors really makes the pattern stand out. The I-cord edge in the contrasting color picks up the second color again and provides a neat finish.
Why “Diamond Beach”?
The name Diamond Beach takes us to Iceland, to a black volcanic beach directly across from the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. There, chunks of ice from the glacier drift through the lagoon into the ocean and are washed back onto the beach by the waves.
What makes it special: The saltwater and the surf polish the ice chunks until they’re smooth and clear. Against the dark volcanic sand, they look like scattered diamonds. It’s quite an extraordinary sight!
