Saend sweater KIDS, knitting patterns, sizes 18m to 14y

Product description

Stripes are always a good idea, so it was absolutely clear that the SAEND sweater women needed a little kids’ version. This simple shaped sweater features some interesting techniques and finishing touches. The construction is similar to a classical raglan style, but you work increases not only along the typical raglan columns, but also along the garter stitch front panels to form long triangles that run into the hem later. A similar triangular garter detail is created over the complete sleeve length until the cuff. The collar, hem and cuffs are worked in 1x1 ribbing to achieve a classical sweater look. You never get bored during the knitting: although there is a lot of stockinette stitch involved, the decreases and garter stitch portions, as well as the color changes every other round, make for an interesting knit without being too complicated. For the smallest sizes the pattern includes instructions for a slit opening at the back to make it easier to put the sweater on, as toddlers' heads are often relatively big.
The MERRY MERINO is the perfect yarn for this sweater, it’s soft and drapey and it comes in a beautiful range of colors.

GAUGE
19 sts x 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in stockinette stitch, blocked
The garter stitch panels will block to match the gauge of the stockinette parts.
ATTENTION: The Merry Merino yarn (as well as other superwash yarns) has the tendency to grow a lot with washing, so be careful and maybe do an in-between blocking before you work the cuffs/hem.

SIZES
1 (2 / 3 / 4 / 5) (6 / 7 / 8 / 9)
Fits approx. ages 18m (2y / 3y / 4y / 6y) (8y / 10y / 12y / 14y)

EASE
Sizing is a guide only and you should pick the size which is closest to the kid’s measured chest circumference plus the desired amount of positive ease. The sweater is designed to be worn within the range of 5–10 cm (2–4 inches) of positive ease, but as children grow quickly, you can’t go wrong with picking a larger size and more ease!
Sample size 5 (68.5 cm (27 inches)) is shown on 62 cm (24.5 inches) bust circumference (6.5 cm (2.5 inches) of positive ease).

Materials List

NEEDLES
Circular needles to obtain gauge; recommended needle sizes: 4 mm (US 6) and 3 mm (US 2.5) with a length of at least 60 cm
(24 inches) or more for larger sizes. DPNs in same size if you prefer using them to work the sleeves and cuffs (instead of magic loop method).

YARN
DK weight yarn
Kremke Soul Wool, The Merry Merino 110 GOTS (DK; 100% wool; 110 m (120 yds) per 50g) in shades 17 fir green (C1) and
33 forest green (C2).

METRES NEEDED
For a two-tone striped sweater as the sample shown in the photos, you need 160 (190 / 210 / 250 / 285) (345 / 405 / 470 /
525) m (170 (210 / 230 / 270 / 310) (380 / 440 / 510 / 570) yds) in C1 and C2 each!
You need approximately 2 (2 / 2 / 3 / 3) (4 / 4 / 5 / 5) balls per color.
The amount stated is calculated generously to have enough in hand for swatching and adjustments.
Yardage may vary slightly depending on your knitting style and the yarn you are using! Always have a bit more in stock to be on the safe side.

NOTIONS
stitch markers (8) // stitch holders or waste yarn // tapestry needle // button for neck option with slit opening (sizes 1–3 only, optional)

Raffiniertes Muster!
