This shawl is knit tip to tip, featuring a beautiful variation on my popular FREYA pattern: a faux cable pattern using only knit and purl stitches as well as simple increases and decreases, based on a broken rib pattern (BRP).
The sideways construction allows for knitting in any yarn weight and gauge. Other special features of the pattern include an integrated I-cord edge as well as clever cast-on technique.
Use the hashtag #RAGNAshawl to share your project on Instagram.
The pattern is suitable for advanced beginners to medium leveled.
You get a multiple page PDF document with written row by row instructions; charts are offered when needed. Techniques are described and video tutorial links are provided if needed as well.
SIZES
The RAGNA shawl can be worn wrapped around the neck twice and tied with a knot. You can adjust the size to your liking and make the shawl in any size, yarn weight, gauge and matching needle size.
Sample 1 (dark red): Finished length: 200 cm (78.75 inches) / finished width: 22 cm (8 inches)
Sample 2 (pink): Finished length: 150 cm (59 inches) / finished width: 17 cm (6 inches)
NEEDLES
Circular needles to match your yarn.
Sample 1 (dark red): recommended needle size:
6–8 mm (US 10–11) with a minimum length of 60 cm (24 inches)
Sample 2 (pink): recommended needle size: 4 mm (US 6) with a minimum length of 60 cm (24 inches)
GAUGE
It is recommended to cast on the shawl directly with your chosen yarn and matching needle size. After a few centimeters/inches, you can wash and block or steam block the shawl to see if you like the fabric.

Sample 2: 24 sts x 34 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in BRP, measured after blocking
