Free Crochet Pattern for Strawberry Field Hat

SUPPLIES YOU NEED

Here is what you will need for this project: ca 50 gr cotton yarn (e.g. Schachenmayr Catania 50 g/137 yds, Sport Yarn, 5ply) in the following colors: white, green and red, a bit of yellow for the flowers or any color you choose, for this project you will need one size hook only - crochet hook C, scissors, tapestry needle, stitch markers, beads and satin ribbon.

I would classify this free crochet pattern as advanced. It is necessary to have some experience with crocheting before creating this project.

SIZE  

Head circumference: 46-48 cm, can be made bigger or smaller depending on pattern repeats and the yarn and hook you use.

TIPS

• Do not join rounds, work in a continuous spiral.
• Use a stitch marker or piece of yarn to keep track of the last stitch in each round
• All stitches are worked into both loops, unless stated otherwise in the pattern.
• When filling with polyester stuffing, pull apart each large chunk into many smaller chunks. This ensures an even distribution of firmness within the amigurumi
• Booties can be made in any desired colors.

Seamless way of changing color when working in the round

Pick up the new color at the end of the round: inset your hook into the stitch, yarn over the new color and pull through the stitch and the loop on your hook to complete the stitch.

To make a magic ring

1. Loop the thread twice around your middle finger
2. Put the hook under both loops, pull the yarn under the loops and hook the thread again
3. Pull the thread through the new loop. The first crochet stitch is ready!
4. Repeat the number of times needed.
5. Pull the inner threads to tighten the ring.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Back Post Single Crochet

Starting from the back of the work, insert hook from back to front, continue across the post, and insert hook from front to back, yarn over, draw the yarn forward, around the post, and through to the back of the work, yarn over and draw the yarn through the two loops on the hook.

Clusters may be made up of any number of stitches.  Clusters used for this pattern are made of two or three dc in one stitch. Do only the first half of each dc so that the last loop of each dc is held back on the hook. Then yarn over and draw through all loops on hook at one time.

Rounds 14-21: Repeat Rnds 12-13 four times.

FLOWER (3x)

Start crocheting with yellow yarn

Round 1: chain 2 stitches, 6 sc in the second stitch.

Round 2: 2 sc in each of next 6 stitches.

Fasten off.

LEAF

SHORT (3x)

Chain 8 stitches. Single crochet in the second stitch from the hook, hdc in each of next 2 stitches, dc in the next stitch, tc in each of next 2 stitches, 5 dc in next stitch,

then, working in other side of foundation chain: dc in the next stitch, tc in each of next 2 stitches, dc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch, sc in next stitch.

Work one round in single crochets all around the leaf.

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

LONG (3x)

Chain 11 stitches, slip stitch in the second stitch from the hook, single crochet in the next stitch, hdc in each of next 2 stitches, dc in each of next 2 stitches, hdc in each of next 2 stitches, sc in the next stitch, slip stitch in the next stitch, then, working in other side of foundation chain: slip stitch in the next stitch, single crochet in the next stitch, hdc in each of next 2 stitches, dc in each of next 2 stitches, hdc in each of next 2 stitches, sc in the next stitch, slip stitch in the next stitch.

Work one round in single crochets all around the leaf.

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

STRAWBERRY (2x)

Start crocheting with white yarn

Round 1: 6 sc into the magic ring

Round 2: sc in each of next 6 stitches

Round 3: 2 sc in each of next 6 stitches

Change the yarn color to red

Round 4-6: sc in each of next 12 stitches

Round 7: sc2tog 6 times

Fasten off

STEM (2x)

Crochet using green yarn

Round 1: chain 8 stitches, 6 sc in the 7th stitch from the hook, sl st

Round 2: *chain 4 stitches, sc in the second chain from hook and each of next 2 stitches, hdc in next stitch, sl st in next stitch*, repeat from* to* 5 times.

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew stem to the strawberry.

ASSEMBLY

Sew strawberries and flowers with leaves to the hat. Weave in all ends
